Filtration media Mineral / pH
Maifan Stone Ceramic Balls are fired balls made from powdered maifan stone (also called maifanite), a natural feldspar-quartz rock, mixed with clay.
Made of: Maifan stone powder and clay, fired (makers' recipes)
Form: Ceramic balls
Main job: Releases small amounts of minerals; may slightly raise pH
Used in: Waslix custom layered cartridges; also sold loose by weight
Maifan stone is a silicate rock whose main minerals are quartz and feldspar. Its surface dissolves very slowly, giving off small amounts of elements such as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and silicon, and it tends to move water pH toward neutral.
Mild pH lift: makers quote outlet pH of 7.0–7.5 in one case and 8–9 in another; the figures do not agree
Adds trace minerals: lab studies report that maifan stone releases minerals into water; the amount depends on the stone and the contact time
No contaminant removal claimed: lab reports of metal uptake come from tests on maifan stone itself, including acidic mine wastewater, and do not carry over to a drinking-water cartridge
Evidence: limited Lab studies report that maifan stone releases minerals and moves pH toward neutral, but the only drinking-water pH figures are makers' own and they disagree. Maifan is widely marketed as a 'mineral' or 'activating' stone; independent evidence for benefits beyond its mineral content is limited.
Use it as an optional finishing layer near the outlet, after the layers that remove contaminants.
Layer position: Near the outlet, after activated alumina and iron-based media, and before the filtration pad
Pairs well with: Activated carbon and the other contaminant-removal layers placed before it
Keep in mind: Its pH effect adds to any other pH-raising layer; it can give off a little silica, which can weaken arsenic media placed after it; it removes no contaminants

Before first use: Rinse twice with clean water, as makers advise, and send the first flush to drain
Storage: Keep sealed and dry; it is silicate rock, so keep dust down and wear a dust mask when pouring large amounts
Replacement: The supplier gives no service life; replace it with the cartridge

No. It releases small amounts of minerals and may raise pH slightly. Contaminant reduction comes from the other layers in your cartridge.
No certification is claimed for this product. Filter media can be certified for material safety (for example to NSF/ANSI 61) and complete systems for performance (NSF/ANSI 42 or 53), but we have not found such a listing for this material.
How well any medium works depends on your water, the flow rate, contact time and the other layers in the cartridge. This page describes the loose medium, not a certified filter system.
